FOUNDATION SUPPORT FOR CLIMATE CHANGE EFFORTS  

 
  The following foundations support a wide variety of climate change efforts, including initiatives related to transportation, smart growth, carbon trading and renewable energy. The list is by no means comprehensive.  
       

 

Bullitt Foundation - Energy and Climate Change program supports organizations in the Pacific Northwest who advocate for efficient, safe, and renewable energy.

Compton Foundation - Environment program funds efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote and implement state and regional policy initiatives to decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and analyze and raise awareness about the regional effects of climate change.

Energy Foundation - A partnership of donors interested in clean energy, supports efforts that promote financial incentives to reduce carbon emissions and encourage states and regions to adopt greenhouse gas targets.

William and Flora Hewlett Foundation - Environment program supports organizations that further innovative and bipartisan approaches to energy policy, encourage a clean energy system in the Western U.S., and promote cleaner cars in crucial cities and countries.

Henry P. Kendall Foundation - Climate Change—Northeast program supports region-wide initiatives to encourage the adoption of multi-sectoral practices to mitigate climate change.

John Merck Fund - Environment Program funds efforts that focus on reducing diesel emissions, promoting renewable energy markets, and pressuring the states of New England and provinces of Eastern Canada to fulfill their pledges to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Oak Foundation - Environment Climate Change program funds organizations that engage in education, research, and political advocacy for energy efficiency and renewable energy in the power and transportation sectors.

Pew Charitable Trusts - Environment program supplies grants to organizations that promote policies and business practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions or support the development of clean technologies.

Rockefeller Brothers Foundation - Sustainable Development program funds organizations that advance energy efficiency and renewable energy efforts, raise awareness of climate change among policymakers and the public, and promote international cooperation on climate issues.

Rockefeller Family Fund - Environment program supports organizations that work to educate the public on the threat of global climate change.

Surdna Foundation - Environment program supports organizations that fight climate change through energy, transportation, and land use efforts.

Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation - Climate Change Initiative supports organizations that address global warming in the Northeast and empower those states to be partners in state or regional campaigns that spur federal action.

Turner Foundation - “Healthy Planet, Healthy Communities” program supports global climate change work at the national level and may fund regional or state-level efforts, especially in the Southeast.

Wallace Global Fund - Natural Resources program supports national and international-scale initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
